Been going here forever. The fried green tomatoes are excellent! As well as their homemade desserts! Have never had anything bad here. Great southern hometown cooking. Definitely recommend

Two stars for Cafe 290. Would have been at least a 4-star experience unfortunately our server Michael was the only one trying to run the entire place by his damn self. Four other ladies that were in there working didn't do a damn thing the whole time in the one hour we had breakfast. Michael didn't exceptional job. Thanks again Michael and happy birthday.
So ...this place is not perfect. I have eaten here several times. Where it counts, it's good. Good service. Full drinks. The pies are all fresh and mouth watering delicious! Some foods and made fresh and taste fresh. Some not so much. I would give 5 star of it where not for quality of some food.
I had forgotten about this place - it had been at least 20 years since I had been there. Still has great down home cooking! The fried green tomatoes had a very crisp cornmeal crust and were delicious with the jalapeno ranch dressing. The chicken fried steak was huge with a tasty breading in the correct proportion the steak. Mashed potatoes were very flavorful if just a tiny bit lumpy and the cream gravy was just right. The dinner salad was crisp more complex than the usual lettuce and tomatoes. My wife had the chopped steak with grilled onions and a flavorful dark brown gravy - all spot on. We closed with cheese cake and cherry topping for her and an amazingly moist carrot cake for me - all made in house (there is a large selection of pies and cakes!). Definitely recommended!
